Olympus O-Bronch App Named Silver Recipient for “Best App for Healthcare Professionals” by MM&M

Olympus’ iPad app increases efficiency for the sales team and delivers important information to healthcare professionals at the tap of a finger

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., (October 2, 2015) – Olympus, a global technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions for medical and surgical procedures, among other core businesses, announced today that the company’s O-Bronch iPad app was named the silver recipient for “Best App for Healthcare Professionals” in the MM&M Awards. Designed in partnership with digital agency Infuse Medical, O-Bronch helps the sales force communicate important product and clinical information related lung cancer diagnosis and staging, as well as other pulmonary diseases, to physicians.

Every year, more people die of lung cancer than by colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. It accounts for nearly 27 percent of all cancer deaths and is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. One reason for the high mortality rate is late-stage diagnosis, occurring when the cancer has spread already.

The National Lung Screening Trial in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2010 showed that in selected patients, early detection of lung cancer can decrease mortality by 20 percent. With the increased adoption of lung cancer screening, the number of patients entering the healthcare system for diagnosis and the subsequent follow-up care is on the rise.

“Olympus is the only company that can provide a comprehensive endoscopy platform which enables hospitals to deliver the recommended American College of Chest Physicians standard of care for diagnosing and staging of lung cancer,” said Lynn Ray, Director of Respiratory Marketing. “The app helps our sales and clinical teams communicate important clinical information relevant to the safe and effective use of our products, including how our technology complements hospital decision-making and how it can help meet triple aim goals.”

O-Bronch enables the sales force to educate physicians on the unique benefits Olympus has to offer, and access clinical and product information at their fingertips to pass on to physicians, nursing staff and hospital administrators while maintaining the company’s rigorous compliance standards.

“Working closely together while sharing expertise and knowledge at every turn is really how we were able to utilize both creative design and technology to build a fantastic user experience within the app. We present everything that a sales rep and clinical application specialist would need within an interactive environment,” said Danny Harker, Digital Creative Director at Infuse Medical.

Infuse Medical, the leading digital agency for medical device manufacturers, worked hand-in-hand with the Olympus Medical Systems Group to develop the O-Bronch mobile sales app. Infuse works with a broad range of medical device companies and specializes in the development of sales applications, 3D animation, video production, web development, Unity applications and more.

Olympus and Infuse were recognized at the MM&M Awards dinner on Oct. 1 at the Cipriani Wall Street. The entry underwent two rounds of judging performed by nearly 100 industry leaders before being named the silver recipient.
